As expected, AMD today launched the ATI Radeon HD 2000 series graphics cards. Quite a few cards have been announced today and the reviews of the Radeon HD 2900XT are rolling in everywhere around the web.

The Radeon HD 2900 XT is priced at $399 and should be available immediately. This card also includes Team Fortress 2, Portal and Half-Life 2: Episode Two from Valve.

The firm also introduced the Radeon HD 2600 and Radeon HD 2400 series but it looks like those cards aren't available yet. For notebook users they also introduced a couple of new GPUs: the Mobility Radeon HD 2600, Mobility Radeon HD 2400 and Mobility Radeon HD 2300. The first notebooks with these GPUs should be available this month.

Like we already heard from dozens of rumours, the first reviews indicate that the performance of the Radeon HD 2900 XT isn't spectacular. This card performs at roughly the same levels as the GeForce 8800 GTS and can't compete with the GeForce 8800 GTX. Another problem with the card is that it uses a lot of power and that it gets very hot.
