Prescott to be called Pentium 4-E?

Posted on Thursday, October 09 2003 @ 21:26:57 CEST by Thomas De Maesschalck

According to X86-Secret the Intel Prescott will be paper launched on the 3th of December, and will be available in quantity in Q1 2004. According to them the Prescott CPUs will be called "Pentium 4 E".

This slightly confirms the fact that the Pentium 4 EE will perform better than the first Prescott processors. The first Pentium 4 EE 3.2GHz is going to be launched at $925, and not at approximately $700 like previously expected. It is likely that we can expect more Extreme Edition Pentiums in future.

They have also spot another strange thing on Intel his roadmaps, in Q3 2004 Intel will be producing Prescotts (90nm, 1MB L2 cache, SSE3) with both a 533MHz or 800MHz FSB!

X86-Secret thinks that Intel might launch these 533MHz Prescotts under the name "Pentium 4 D". These processors will take place in performance & price between the Celerons and the normal Pentium 4 E's.
