GeForce GTX 280 price drops to $459 at Newegg, GTX 260 selling for $259

Posted on Friday, July 04 2008 @ 04:00:11 CEST by Thomas De Maesschalck

Newegg is now offering a MSI GeForce GTX 280 graphics card for $459.99 after a $40 mail-in-rebate and cards from other brands like Asus and Palit are also available for around $499. It seems NVIDIA is cutting the price harder and faster than expected. A couple of days ago you had to shelve out $649 for a GTX 280 but now you can get it for almost $200 less.

Furthermore, the GeForce GTX 260 is now available for $299.99 and ZipZoomfly is selling one with a $40 mail-in-rebate so the card costs only $259. The Radeon HD 4800 series caught NVIDIA by surprise but the green firm is striking back in an aggressive fashion.

That's a lot better. The OC versions need to fall as well, but that will come soon I think when the 4870x2 shows up, 30 days or so.

299 is much more proper for the 260. 9800+'s should be 199.

Yeah - need to get back to the $499 as a "top" card again. Breaking that price point has been a mistake for the industry.
