Canon PowerShot SX1 IS has 20x zoom, records Full HD video

Posted on Thursday, September 18 2008 @ 03:17:54 CEST by Thomas De Maesschalck

Besides the new EOS 5D Mark II, Canon also has a new digital camera with support for Full HD video recording. The Canon SX1 IS is a 10MP digicam with a stunning 20x wide-angle zoom, 2.8" LCD display, 4fps burst mode and DIGIC 4 image processor. Canon also introduced the PowerShot SX10 IS, that device has similar features but can only record video at VGA resolution.
With a Canon 20x wide-angle (28mm) optical zoom lens, the PowerShot SX1 IS and PowerShot SX10 IS tackle everything from long-range telephoto shots to sweeping landscapes. Canon’s Ultrasonic Motor (USM) combines with Voice Coil Motor (VCM) technology for near-silent operation and the speed for sports or wildlife subjects. And thanks to Canon’s optical Image Stabilizer – which now offers a 4-stop advantage – camera shake blur is avoided even with the zoom fully extended.

Full specifications at Canon. Here's a photo of the PowerShot SX1:

The PowerShot SX1 IS debuts in December for 679.99EUR (incl. VAT), while the PowerShot SX10 will debut in October for 469.99EUR.
