MSI has introduced two new Radeon HD 4870 graphics cards; the MSI R4870-MD1G 1GB and MSI R4870-MD512 512MB. Both cards use a large 90mm cooling solution that promises high heat dissipation and low noise.
Extra large 9cm cooling
The MSI R4870-MD1G and MSI R4870-MD512 both come with a large 9cm fan which provides high heat dissipation and low noise. The MSI R4870-MD1G and MSI R4870-MD512's 9cm large fan runs about 1000 rpm less (~2800 rpm) than the majority of graphics cards fans (3500-3800 rpm), while producing 60% more air flow. The two cards have a large heatsink with copper base and dual heatpipes. Next to that both cards have an extra heatsink on the power circuits. Combined with the extra large fan, MSI’s unique design can lower the ATI 4870 card's average temperature down by 20°C.

Native HDMI ports supporting Blu-ray
The MSI R4870-MD1G and MSI R4870-MD512 offer HDMI, DVI and D-Sub (VGA) ports. HDMI doesn’t only deliver breathtaking visuals, it also supports true, hi-definition sound. MSI ATI Radeon HD 4870, supports UVD 2.0 video decoder engine, which enables Blu-ray movie playback on any type of screen, and supports the latest DirectX 10 games.

SSC (Solid State Choke)
MSI R4870-MD1G and MSI R4870-MD512 is equipped with the latest Solid State Choke (SSC) for more stable operations. MSI takes the lead by implementing a new SSC design, which doesn’t produce any unpleasant noises under high currents. This SSC choke is made to withstand the most extreme currents of the MSI R4870-MD1G and MSI R4870-MD512, increasing the possibilities for overclocking. Furthermore, Solid State Chokes also helps to increase the power efficiency.

Extra long lifespan capacitors
High performance graphics cards consume a lot of power. A power supply's performance has a direct impact on the total lifespan, stability and overclocking capabilities. The MSI R4870-MD1G and MSI R4870-MD512 are equipped with all solid capacitors, ensuring a 5000 hour lifespan under 105°C environment. Gamers can play for eight hour games every day for more than 10 years.
