The specifications of the ASUS ROG ARES, a non-reference Radeon HD 5970 graphics card, have been revealed by Finnish tech site Muropaketti. The card uses two Cypress GPUs with 1600 stream processors and features double as much memory as the reference model. The GPU clockspeeds have been raised 17.2 percent to 850MHz, and the 4GB GDDR5 memory is clocked at 1200MHz, 20 percent more than the reference model.
The cooling solution features eight heatpipes and a 100mm fan, which promises a noise production of just 37dBA, versus 44.5dBA on the reference model. Details about power consumption are unknown, but the site reveals the card uses three PCI Express power connectors (8-pin + 8-pin + 6-pin).
According to the information, ARES will be 28.20 percent faster in 3DMark Vantage than the standard Radeon HD 5970, likely making it the fastest graphics card on the market for at least a couple of months.
Pricing is unknown but if it's anything like the ASUS MARS it won't be very affordable, only 1,000 units were made of that card and they were sold for 1099EUR.
