German tech site PC Games Hardware calculated that on average, the new DDR4 memory is about 50 percent more expensive than DDR3 memory when comparing modules with the same capacity and frequency. The actual price difference varies from around 30 percent to nearly 80 percent but this kind of price difference is quite normal, we've seen it every single time a new memory standard hits the market.
Prices of DDR4 memory are currently quite high due to the low volume shipped but over time as adoption kicks off we'll see the price of DDR4 dropping below the price of comparable DDR3 modules. This may occur sometime in 2015 ater Intel's Skylake platform is introduced, this will be the first mainstream platform to support DDR4 memory.
