Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi will soon be launching its first laptop lineup and many are looking forward to see if the firm can deliver on its promise. The company aims to deliver a great price/performance ratio and decent built quality.

Hexus reports one of the ways the company plans undercut the competition is by equipping its laptop with a previous-generation processor and video card. Several models are under development, incuding 12.5", 13.3" and 15.6" versions, and previous rumors indicated Xiaomi is experimenting with premium aluminium alloy builds.

According to the latest leaks, Xiaomi plans to offer a sub-3000 yuan ($464) 15.6" model with an Intel Core i7 "Haswell" processor, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760M, 8GB DDR3 memory, Linux and a 1920 x 1080 pixel screen.
The sources say that the Xiaomi laptop will be available in several screen sizes from early 2016 onwards. Previously we have seen leaks suggesting that it will feature a 'premium' aluminium alloy build. Specifically the new information says that Inventec will be making a 12.5-inch model and a 13.3-inch model will be made by Compal.

The spec list detailing a 15.6-inch model was also leaked by the Chinese source, and is reproduced below:

  • Processor: Intel Haswell Core i7

  • RAM: 8GB RAM
