Intel confirmed both Kaby Lake and Apollo Lake will ship later this year. As was revealed many months ago, Kaby Lake will be Intel's third architecture on the 14nm process. This chip breaks the tick-tock cycle as Intel needed something new to fill the longer gap between the 14nm and the 10nm process.

Apollo Lake on the other hand is a new Atom chip, it's intended for devices like entry-level tablets, value 2-in-1 laptops, etc. The new low-budget Atom chips should be capable of handling 4K video and will get support for USB Type-C and Thunderbolt 3.

You can expect both in the second half of the year.
