ThermalTake Engine 27 CPU cooler spins the heatsink around

A couple of month ago I reported about how Coolchip was close to finishing a cooler that features a rotating heatsink. Today ThermalTake commercializes this product as the Engine 27 1U low-profile CPU cooler and claims it is world's most advanced air cooling solution.

The Engine 27 is just 27mm high, it has a non-interference design and is intended for compact computer systems and 1U server racks with Intel LGA1156/1155/1150/1151 based processors.

This round cooler has a nickel-plated copper base and the middle section is basically a forty-fin radial aluminium heatsink that gets rotates like a fan. The metallic fan base features small radial gaps that allow heat to be transferred rapidly to the rotating metallic fan.

The specification sheet reveals the cooler measures 27mm x 91.5mm x 60mm (H x L x W) and weighs 310g. The metal PWM fan spins at 1500-2500RPM, it produces an airflow of up to 9.2CFM and has a noise level of 13-25dBA. It is not intended for high-end CPUs but should be capable of handling up to 70W.

I'm not sure how it will perform in real-life conditions but it's definitely an interesting concept. Pricing of the Engine 27 will be around $49 and a larger, more powerful version with heatpipes is expected in the future.

Designed with 27mm height, the Engine 27 is the ideal CPU cooling solution for slim and small form factor applications, such as 1U server, HTPC, AIO/PIO PC, POS terminal and Booksize/Mini PC.

Unique Metallic (Alumium Alloy) Structure with Superb Heat Dissipation
Unlike traditional CPU coolers, the Engine 27 features a metallic structure that provides more fortified and efficient thermal paths for CPU. The metallic fan is designed to directly pull heat from CPU. Especially, the metallic fan base is engineered with small radial gaps that allow heat to be transferred rapidly to the rotating metallic fan. Hence, when the metallic fan blades generate cooling airflow, heat will also be transferred to the flowing air by both rotating fan and stationary fan base at the same time.

Forty Fan Blade Design for Better Cooling Performance
To make a perfect balance between cooling performance and noise level, forty fan blades are engineered to generate large volume of air passing through the heat sink at any angle. Additionally, the metallic blade rotation will create a centrifugal force on ambient air. In the meanwhile, the centrifugal forces will expel hot air so that heat can easily be taken away from the fan blades. Most importantly, this cooling technique can reduce the blade’s noise and vibration because hot air expelled will create a vacuum, and then fresh cooling air will be drawn in the heatsink.

Radial Fin Arrangement
The Engine 27 is specially designed with metallic radial fins to accelerate the thermal transfer process. Especially, the radial arrangement with 129 fin design can minimize the gap between the fan and the fins, thus, hot air can be exhausted more rapidly and efficiently.

Built-In PWM Fan
The PWM function enables the motherboard to run the fan precisely at its necessary speed. This guarantees ultra-quiet noise level without compromising on the cooling performance.
