ATI Radeon X1800 reviewed

The Inquirer has published one of the first reviews on the web about ATI's new Radeon X1800. They had just enough time to compare a Radeon X1800XT clocked at 625MHz with 1500MHz 512MB memory against a GeForce 7800 GTX clocked at 430MHz core and 1200MHz memory. Pre-release ATI drivers were used and NVIDIA's 78.01 drivers as the new 81.84 beta drivers weren't available yet.

They report the Radeon X1800 XT has a huge dual-slot cooler and that it becomes pretty hot, but still overclockable.

After a series of benchmarks the Inq concludes there isn't a clear winner as the X1800XT is barely faster than the GeForce 7800 GTX in most games. But while the GeForce 7800 GTX is already available for months the Radeon X1800 XT may still take four weeks to reach your PC.
