    Socket 939: Athlon 64 3800+ and Athlon 64 FX53 Review

Posted on Tuesday, June 01 2004 @ 21:37:43 CEST by LSDsmurf

Back in mid March we last reviewed an AMD processor. That was the 2.4GHz Athlon 64 FX53, and just over two months have passed until today's new Athlon 64 releases. Four new CPUs are here including new 939 models the 3500+, 3800+, and FX53 along with the Socket 754 3700+. With 939 comes dual channel memory with standard PC3200. For the FX line it means layer 4 instead of layer 6 boards again with the standard DDR PC3200. The 939 also enjoy the new 2GHz Hypertransport link, while the 3700+ keeps the 1.6GHz bus. As you can see these enhancements are designed to improve performance, and drive down costs. While we didn't see an increase in AMD's top 2.4GHz MHz, we will see improvements.
