MEPIS was conceived because Warren didn't think that other Linux distributions were immediately useful for himself or other everyday users. His goal was to create a Linux install that included a broad mix of best-of-breed applications, transparent hardware support and ease of installation. I think he did all this while keeping in mind the needs of desktop users. The software in MEPIS is bundled without regard to any political or social statement – it's in there because it works the way you'd expect it to work if you were on a Windows PC or a Mac!
