Prolimatech Magnetic Pin review
Testing
The installation of the magnetic pin is really easy, you just have to pull the rubber pin through the fan screw hole until you can't pull it any further.
Once all four pins are in place, you simply attach the fan to one of the fan vents in your case. The small rubber anchor of the Magnetic Pin goes into the chassis fan screw holes to ensure a secure hold and to prevent slipping of the fan. One thing to take in mind is that the magnet acts as a spacer, it makes the fans sit about 5mm further away from the case than with regular case screws. In most cases this shouldn't cause any clearance issues though.
The magnets are very effective, they securely hold your fans in place without a hitch as you can see in this shake test from Prolimatech:
Conclusion
The Magnetic Pin comes in handy not only during the installation of a fan, but also if you want to be able to easily reposition fans in your case or if you want to take them out for a cleaning session. Compatibility issues are the biggest issue, but these are clearly listed on Prolimatech's website. The magnetic attachment will obviously not work if you have an aluminum or plexiglass case, and it also only works on fans with open corners, you will not be able to use it with fans that have plastic fan screw columns. The Magnetic Pin is sold in the US for $4.99
