Toshiba and Canon say they will start the mass production of their SED panels in July 2007 and launch SED TVs in the fourth quarter of 2007.

SED displays combine the advantages of CTR displays with the thin bezel of LCD displays.
The flat-panel TV market is expected to see continued growth within the overall TV market, with demand receiving a significant impetus from the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the global shift from analog to digital broadcasting. Toshiba and Canon consider the launch of SED TVs to be a major industry milestone, comparable to the initial introduction of CRT television.
