Google to fight badware

Posted on Tuesday, August 08 2006 @ 0:36 CEST by Thomas De Maesschalck
Google joins the battle against sites that host spyware of adware by warning users via a popup, when they are about the follow a search result to a site that will download such malware.
The search giant is working as part of a 'badware' initiative, along with Sun and Lenovo, to flag websites that have previously been reported to StopBadware.org for distributing such software.

Initially, a general warning will be displayed, but as more detail is collated about a site the warning will become more detailed (see picture), describing the operation of the site and the nature of the threat it represents, along with recommendations for action.
