Intel presents many ways to save power

The Inq reports Intel presented a few ways to save power at the MPF 2006:
INTEL KICKED OFF the Fall Processor Forum with a talk about power and MPUs, a hot topic nowadays. You can do things to reduce power of a CPU and computer from the transistor level to outside of the box. All need to work together to lower power use.

First you need to understand the problem, and that goes back to the 3W 486DX of the late 90's. Compare that to the 115W PD of last year, 30x or more power use in less than 20 years, but luckily for you and I, performance has gone up much more than that. Conroe has pushed the performance per watt (PPW) curve up by almost 100x since those 486 days..
