"Unlike conventional 3D displays, there is no loss of resolution on the newly-developed 3D display even if the panel's 2D mode is switched to the 3D mode," a Samsung spokeswoman said in confirming the ministry's announcement.
Samsung has already built a 17-inch monitor prototype of the 3D display, which uses binocular disparity and time sequential "lens plus barrier" systems. It plans to complete development soon on a 19-inch commercial monitor.
The ministry said the new 3D display will hit the market in 2009 when new demand for a wide range of IT-related applications such as online games, e-shopping and 3D Web content will be ready.
