Bluetooth chips, too sluggish and short-range for high-speed data (where Wi-Fi rules), are ideal for phone calls and tunes because they drain the battery far more slowly than Wi-Fi. Samsung's gizmo can play music to a wireless headset for up to 30 hours before needing a charge.
Neither CSR nor Apple will comment on plans for a wireless iPod. Apple turned down CSR's last two generations of Bluetooth chips, but the next is smaller, cheaper and twice as fast. Just what Jobs could be looking for.
Apple to integrate Bluetooth into its iPods?
