Sony today announced it will release its PlayStation 3 console in Europe on March 23rd.

Unfortunately the company only talks about the more expensive 60GB model. The cheaper 20GB model has been delayed, Sony claims consumers and retailers are less interested in this model. It's not yet sure when the 20GB model will follow but it will be sometime later this year.

The Sony PS3 60GB edition will be sold in Europe for 599EUR. Africa, the Middle East, Australia and New Zealand will also receive the PS3 on March 23rd.

In Japan and the U.S. the PS3 console has been available since November 2006.
