In order to provide the performance, stability and expandability requirements for 64-bit computing, ASUS has designed the DSBF-D12 and DSBF-D12/SAS serverboards. These two serverboards are designed to support both the Dual Core Intel Xeon Processor 5000/5100 Sequence and the Quad-Core Intel Xeon Processor 5300 Sequence; and utilize DDR2 FBD memory for their memory needs.

The DSBF-D12 and DSBF-D12/SAS serverboards are able to support the latest Quad-Core Intel Xeon Processor 5300 Sequence – which provides a 50% performance gain when compared with the Dual Core Intel Xeon 5100 sequence processor in the same power envelope. Both serverboards are also ready for the wide range of 64-bit applications, and support Intel VT for server consolidation and Intel I/OAT technology. With up to 12 FBD DIMM slots and quad-channel support, the DSBF-D12 serverboards support FBD 533/667 up to 48GB – which maximizes CPU and memory computing power significantly.

The DSBF-D12 supports mainstream SATA2 storage by integrating 6 SATA2 300MB/s ports with built-in RAID functions for better and more cost-effective data protection. This serverboard supports SATA RAID 0, 1, 0+1 with Windows drivers via LSI MegaRAID SATA RAID stack for major Linux distributions.

The DSBF-D12/SAS serverboard supports LSI® Integrated RAID or Integrated Mirror function, which provides RAID 0, 1, 1E for affordable RAID options for the drives. It also comes with an optional PCI-X Zero Channel RAID with BBU support for cost-effective hardware RAID 5 upgrades.

Both the DSBF-D12 and DSBF-D12/SAS have a full range of expansion choices, including two next-generation PCI Express x8 slots and one PCI Express x16 (x8 link) slot. They also protect the users' investment with two PCI-X 133/100MHz slots and one SODIMM socket for an optional ASUS ASMB3-SOL card.

The latest optional MemCool fan kit optimizes the FB-DIMM performance of these two serverboards. The patented ASUS MemCool FB-DIMM Fan kit blows air directly to the hot spot on the FB-DIMM module. Accompanied with ASUS BIOS settings, this will make the system attain excellent balance among memory performance, system acoustics, and longer memory lift time. The tool-less design of the module also allows users to easily install the MemCool kit without potential damage to the board. Last but not least, the MemCool kit is a unified design that can be used on all ASUS dual Xeon server boards on 2U or higher chassis.
