Yesterday Microsoft unveiled the Xbox 360 Elite, one of the things you may have noticed is that this black console still ships with a regular DVD drive. Microsoft is s supporter of the HD DVD format and their decision not to equip the new Xbox console with a HD DVD drive leads some to believe that the next-generation DVD war may soon be over.

A HD DVD player option is available for the Xbox 360 but one of the console's biggest competitors, the PlayStation 3, ships standard with a Blu-ray drive.

Currently Blu-ray movies are selling much better than HD DVD movies and experts believe Microsoft refused to equip the Xbox 360 Elite with an expensive HD DVD drive because it didn't want to invest any further in a format that will likely loose the next-gen DVD format war.
