LG.Philips opens LCD fab in Poland

World's second largest maker of LCD display panels, LG.Philips, announced their fab in Poland has started mass production of LCD displays.

LG.Philips says the fab in Kobierzyce near Wroclaw in southwestern Poland will produce up to 10 million panels a year by 2011 to meet the booming European LCD TV demand. Currently the fab has a production capacity of 3 million units.

The total investment in this fab is estimated at $579.9 million trough the year 2011. The fab mainly assembles LCD panels over 32".

Eastern Europe countries are a popular choice for flatscreen makers because of their convenient location, the well-educated work force and the cheap labor costs.
