In the third quarter of this year Intel will introduce its quad-core Core 2 Extreme QX6850 processor. This chip is clocked at 3GHz with a FSB of 1333MHz. It will be supported by the Bearlake X38 chipset and will be priced at $999 in 1,000 unit quantities.

Intel also plans to increase its dual-core processor production to over 80% of its processor lineup in the second quarter of this year. However, the chip giant will keep producing 15% of its processors as single-core processors for the low-end market.

Taiwanese industry sources also leaked that Intel is preparing a $200 pricecut for the QX6800 processor in Q3 2007. The chip will drop from $1,199 to $999.
