Firingsquad had an interview with Colony Studios which is working on a new space-based MMO. Before their plans changed, the company wanted to make a Battlestar Galactica MMO game.
FiringSquad: How did the name of the company come to be chosen?

Mike Wallis:Since we were planning on doing a BSG MMO, we wanted to come up with a name that had ties to the show. We decided upon Thirteenth Colony Studios, after the Thirteenth Tribe in the show, which is supposed the one that settled on Earth. However, after doing some more research into Thirteenth Tribe, there were some potential religious connections there that we wanted to avoid. We dropped the “Thirteenth” and just went with Colony Studios, which in our opinion is a great name for a development studio focusing on a sci-fi MMO product.
