How fat to you need to be to stop a bullet?

Posted on Sunday, July 01 2007 @ 07:37:24 CEST by

Ever wondered how fat you would need to be to stop a bullet? The Naked Scientists did some tests to find the answer.
We went to the Cavendish Laboratory to discover how fat you would have to be to stop a bullet. We used a gas gun, which is basically a huge air rifle. There is a chamber that is filled with high pressure helium (this is used because it is lighter than air so will expand more quickly)..
After a bunch of testing they conclude that you need about 72cm of body fat to stop a supersonic bullet. So it's probably better to use a bullet proof vest
