VIA to focus more on own-brand chipsets

There are rumours that VIA may quit the chipset business but DigiTimes received some info from one of their sources that indicates that the firm will not quit this business and instead will shift its focus from 3rd party chipsets to its own C7 platform:
VIA is currently preparing to put less resources in the development of third party chipsets and put more focus on its own-brand C7 processor platform chipset, noted the sources, adding that the company will head towards multimedia control, commercial embedded (thin clients, industrial PCs and point of sale terminals), home multimedia and mobile embedded (ultra-mobile devices, set-top boxes, LCD TVs and car electronics) market, noted the sources.

While VIA had no comment regarding the speculation of its future plans, the company did again state that its previous patent agreement with Intel allows VIA to design and sell any Intel processor-compatible chipset products until April 7, 2008 and so the company is not in danger of violating Intel's patents.
