Samsung close to becoming 2nd biggest phone maker

Market research firm Ovum has released a report on the cell phone market. They've found that Samsung may soon become world's second biggest cell phone maker.

Samsung lagged behind was number three for quite some time in the cell phone market but it looks like the firm managed to ship more phones than Motorola in the second quarter of this year.
According to recent announcements by cell phone makers, Samsung succeeded in shipping around 37.4 million mobile phones in the second quarter, whereas Motorola said it shipped from 35 to 36 million devices in Q2 2007. Sony Ericsson reported unit handset sales increases to 24.9 million during the quarter. Data from Nokia, LG and others were is not yet available.
