Google announced the acquisition of Imaging America, a company that makes high-resolution cameras for the collection of aerial imagery.

It's pretty clear for what purpose Google has acquired this firm: to improve Google Maps and Google Earth with more, better and more recent imagery.

Google said they've already used some of ImageAmerica's work in the past, the company provided high resolution black and white imagery of New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina.
