Together with Gateway, Apple is now the third largest PC shipper in the U.S.

That may sound impressive but when you take a look at the numbers you'll see that both firms only have 5.6% each. Dell has 28.4% and HP is second with 23.6%.

Toshiba has 5.3%, Acer 5.2% and several other smaller brands make up the other 26.3%.

In the second quarter of last year Apple had a marketshare of 4.8%, and in 2005 it was only 4.4%. The U.S. computer market grew by 7.2% so Apple did quite well by growing 26.1% from the year ago.
