AMD is gearing up to release its long-awaited Barcelona later this quarter:
AMD is set to debut its third-generation Opteron server processor architecture later this quarter. The company publicly announced its upcoming launch next month, but the company's latest processor guidance, released just this week, states otherwise.

According to partners close to AMD, sampling for Barcelona processors will hit top tier system builders this week. One engineer speaking on conditions of anonymity claims, "We're finally getting close to a launch here, but [AMD] still hasn't finalized the date."

The August 27 launch date originally featured on the last Barcelona roadmap, issued less than a month ago, has since disappeared.
