Microsoft today unveiled the first version of its Silverlight plugin. This technology is a cross-platform multimedia player designed for rich interactive web applications that incorporate video, interactivity and stunning user interfaces.

over here. It's available for Windows and Mac OS X. A Linux version will follow later. Microsoft hopes the media player will be downloaded 200 million times by mid-2008.
Adobe will soon release Moviestar, a new edition of Flash with support for HD video.
