German hardware site HardTects4U claims AMD is going to announce its tri-core processors later today - one day before Intel kicks off its Intel Developer Forum in San Francisco.

These new AMD processors with three cores are slated for the first quarter of 2008 and will be solely for the desktop PC market. It's expected that these new CPUs will be launched under the Phenom X3 brandname and will be a bit cheaper than the quad-core Phenom X4 models.

More information is expected later today.
