AMD Radeon HD 3850 and 3870 released

Today AMD finally unveiled its new 55nm Radeon HD 3800 series. There are two different variants: the Radeon HD 3850 with 256MB GDDR3 memory and the Radeon HD 3870 with 512MB GDDR4 memory. These cards are priced at $179 and $219, respectively.

AMD also officially introduced ATI CrossFireX, a multi-GPU technology with support for two, three and four graphics cards. At launch, the ATI Radeon HD 3800 series will support dual-GPU CrossFire with tri and quad-GPU support scheduled for January 2008.

In January/February 2008 we can expect the Radeon HD 3870 X2 for about $499 and the firm is also working on a Radeon HD 3830 but few details are known about that card.
