DigiTimes reports SiS will spin off its investment management, digital TV and mobile device businesses to form three wholly-owned subsidiaries.
The company expects the spin-off plans to boost its competitiveness in the market. The capital of the subsidiaries will remain at NT$14 billion (US$456.6 million). As for personnel, the company will not lay off any employees. The main company will retain around 500 staff, while the subsidiaries in charge of digital TV and mobile device businesses will have 120 and 40 employees, respectively.

After the spin-off, in addition to PC chipset production, the company will focus on customized SoC (system on chip) designs as one of its key businesses. SoC products will enter engineering sampling by the second half of 2008. The spin-offs should assist each of SiS's product lines to improve, while each subsidiary will be able to manage its costs more efficiently.
