DigiTimes wrote last week that Samsung is advancing its shipments schedule of 16" Full HD panels for Acer.
Currently Samsung is the only panel maker capable of producing 16-inch FHD panels, with other panel makers likely to begin deliveries in the third quarter of 2008. As Acer has already set the launch schedule of its Aspire Gemstone Blue series for April, Samsung is said to have brought forward its shipments schedule. Acer aims to ship a total of 200,000 Aspire FHD notebooks worldwide in the second quarter, the sources said.

Industry players are positive over Acer's early entrance in the Blu-ray notebook segment, given that rival Dell only plans to ship a small quantity of 16-inch FHD notebooks. However, some are less impressed by the launch pointing out the small display size increase compared to 15.4-inch notebooks. The sources added in saying that Acer has also placed an order for 400,000 15.4-inch HD panels with corresponding notebooks to be launched in the second half of 2008.
