The latest player to enter the cheap ultraportable notebook market is Dell.

Compal Electronics today announced Dell has plans to release a 8.9" notebook in June with a price below $499. An anonymous Compal official claims they will ship 200,000-300,000 low-cost notebook computers to Dell each month.

This system will likely feature the Intel Atom processor and will be one of the many new systems in the niche market of small but cheap notebooks. Dell will have to compete against the Asus Eee PC, Intel ClassMate, ECS G10IL and various other models.
