Both Asus and Gigabyte expect a drop in motherboard shipments in the second quarter of 2008 due to weak demand in Europe and a possible delay of the Intel P43 and P45 chipsets.
Asustek expects to see a sequential drop of around 10-12% in its motherboard shipments in the second quarter, while Gigabyte expects a drop of around 10-15%, reported the paper.

Gigabyte expects P45 and P43-based motherboards to replace the current mid-range boards in the third quarter this year. The company also expects the 4-series chipsets to account for 30% of the company's total motherboard sales in the third quarter, with the percentage likely to raise to 60% in the fourth quarter, added the paper.
