WitsView reports sales of large-size LCD panels were up 11.9% in March:
Global large-size LCD panel shipments totaled 37.1 million units in March, up 11.9% sequentially and 38% on year, as clients advanced their orders in anticipation of price hikes, according to WitsView.

Growth of monitor and notebook panel shipments were significantly higher than that for TV panels, as stabilizing prices for PC applications prompted clients to increase their stock ahead of anticipated price hikes in the second quarter, the research firm said.

Furthermore, inventory of PC applications has reached healthy levels following adjustments that started at the end of 2007, which contributed to the strong demand in March, WitsView said.

According to the WitsView figures, the first-quarter total shipments of large-size panels rose 42% on year to 103.8 million units.
WitsView says in terms of panel areas, large-size LCD display shipments totaled 16.4 million square meters in Q1 2008. That's 61% more than last year an enough to cover about half of the village I live in.
