Industry sources unveil Asus will release its first 16:9 notebooks in the second half of this year. These models will be pushed in Europe and the US first and they'll have a 15.6" LCD display.
Currently, 16:9 15.6-inch panel suppliers include Taiwan-based AUO, Chi Mei Optoelectronics (CMO), and Chunghwa Picture Tubes (CPT) and Korea-based LG. Korea-based Samsung will also start to supply 15.6-inch panels in the second half of this year, noted the sources.

In addition to 15.6-inch, first-tier notebook vendors including Asustek, Acer, Sony and Lenovo are also planning to launch 16:9 14-inch notebooks in the second half, while Acer is planning to launch a 17.3-inch notebook in the first quarter of 2009 in Europe and the US, added the sources.
