NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280 - little roundup

Here's a quick overview of some interesting GTX 280 related articles and previews.

VR Zone published a preview of the GeForce GTX 280. The site claims this new chip is somewhat an improved single-chip version of the GeForce 9800 GX2.

Here are photos of a LN2 cooled GTX 280.

And German hardware site Hardware-Aktuell published a short review of the card. The reviewer only had time to do four benchmarks, in 3DMark06 the card sits between the GeForce 9800 GX2 and Radeon HD 3870 X2 but in Crysis, F.E.AR. and Prey the GeForce GTX 280 is a lot faster than the previous generation.

Hardware-Aktuell published a table with the relative performance of other graphics cards compared to the GeForce GTX 280 (100%)
  • GeForce 9800 GX2: 88%
  • Radeon HD 3870 X2: 69%
  • GeForce 9800 GTX: 69%
  • GeForce 8800 GTX: 68%
  • Radeon HD 3870: 53%
  • The site also tested the power consumption, in idle mode the card uses a lot less power than the Radeon HD 3870 X2, GeForce 8800 or GeForce 9800 series cards but in load the test system used 390W, which is more than the Radeon HD 3870 X2 (372W) and GeForce 9800 GX2 (345W).

More indepth reviews will be available tomorrow when the NDA expires.
