HTC to launch 10 new handsets in 2H 2008

The success of the Asus Eee PC and similar ultraportable notebooks is putting pressure on the sales of UMPCs. DigiTimes writes HTC may be forced to adjust its deployment of UMPC products and writes the firm will release 10 new handsets in the second half of this year:
The focus of HTC's development will continue to strengthen users' Internet experience through mobile devices, Chou said without further elaborating on the company's UMPC strategy.

However, market sources in Taiwan indicated that HTC is developing new MID (Mobile Internet Device) products, using Intel's Atom and Qualcomm's Snapdragon chipset platforms. New devices are likely to be unveiled in the second half of 2008.

HTC plans to launch 10 new handsets in the second half of 2008, including new models for its HTC Diamond and Touch Pro lineups, Chou said.
