Four years ago I bought my first 17" LCD display for 350EUR but these days you can get much larger panels for a lot less money. Take the new Samsung SyncMaster 2443NW for instance, this LCD display can be found in the Netherlands for less than 250EUR. Most of the shops don't seem to have the product in stock but it should be available soon.

The 2443NW display has a 1920 x 1200 pixel resolution, 5ms response time, 20,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, 170-degree horizontal viewing angle and 160-degree vertical viewing angle. Power consumption of this 24" TN panel is around 50W and less than 1W in standby.

It's pretty cheap for a 24" panel but the feature list is pretty small, it doesn't even have a DVI-input.
