Dell announced its new Instant-On system will be released sometime next week for its Optiplex desktop computers:
Without booting their computers, users will have instantaneous access to computer data and other major applications, said Jeff Clarke, senior vice president and general manager of Dell Product Group.

The system will allow users to work with their email and other documents without having to engage the CPU, thus conserving energy. Dell also promised a version of this technology providing a “multi-day” battery lifespan for new models of the Latitude laptop line called Latitude On.
