Battery cell makers are planning to drop their prices by 5-8% in December this year following a recent fall in the global price of cobalt, an important raw material for battery cells. The price cut should trigger notebook battery module makers to follow suit, according to industry sources.
Recent cobalt pricing has dropped around 60% compared to the highest point in 2008. The raw material normally accounts for around 70-80% of a battery cell's total cost.
