PC Games Hardware heard AMD is making better progress on Socket AM3 than expected, the site reports Socket AM3 motherboards may become available in late January already.
After talking to internal sources, our colleagues from the Ati-Forum expect AM3 CPUs and AM3 motherboards to be available in large quantities by February. Our own inquiries among several motherboard producers confirmed the assumption. Elitegroup for example wants to offer a first AM3 board in late January or early February. Asus even announced an AM3 sample for mid-January.

Those who want to wait for the AM3 generation before buying a Phenom II should wait for our benchmarks: DDR3 memory is still more expensive than DDR2 modules. As soon as we receive the first AM3 sample, we will check if the performance benefit is worth the high price.
