Internet Explorer marketshare drops to 68%

New market research data by Net Applications indicates Microsoft's Internet Explorer browser continued to lose marketshare last month. IE is still the dominant browser with a marketshare of 68.15 percent, but the browser has lost 7.89 percent since December 2007.

Mozilla's Firefox browser takes the second place with a marketshare of 21.34 percent, a 4.54 percent gain compared to last year's 16.80 percent. Apple's Safari is the third most popular browser, it gained 2.34 percent to 7.93 percent of the market this year and Google Chrome, which was launched in September, grabbed the fourth spot with a marketshare of 1.04 percent.

Another alternative browser that gained some marketshare this year is Opera, the Norwegian browser rose from 0.64 percent to 0.71 percent.
