The marketshare of Microsoft's Internet Explorer has been going down steadily in the last couple of years and this trend continues in 2009. The latest browser market share ranking from Net Applications reveals Internet Explorer held 67.55 percent of the market in January, compared to 75.47 percent in January 2008. In the same time period, Firefox managed to increase its share of the pie from 16.98 percent to 21.5 percent.

The third most popular browser is Apple's Safari, which climbed from 5.82 percent a year ago to 8.29 percent in January. Newcomer Chrome from Google now stands at 1.12 percent, while Opera has 0.70 percent of the market.
