Canon PowerShot SX1 IS digicam records 1080p HD video

Canon refreshed its PowerShot lineup today with ten new digital cameras, these units will become available in the next 2-3 months with prices ranging from $130 to $600. The flagship is the $600 PowerShot SX1 IS, this ten megapixel CMOS digicam will be available in April and has 20x optical zoom, a 2.8" swivel LCD display and the capability to record 1080p HD video.
The Canon PowerShot SX1 IS Digital Camera is a 10.0-Megapixel powerhouse incorporating a CMOS image sensor and 1080p Full HD Movie mode, both first-in-class features for a PowerShot camera, resulting in superb image quality and enhanced flexibility. Still images can be captured easily with a 20x wide-angle Optical Zoom lens (equivalent to 28-560 mm) with Optical Image Stabilization and a 2.8-inch vari-angle wide-format LCD for great on-camera viewing and editing. What's more, this camera offers a full range of shooting and recording modes, including RAW + JPEG for ultimate creative control. While the camera is in Movie Mode, the PowerShot SX1 IS Digital Camera can easily play back video and view photos on an HDTV, via a built-in HDMI connector. With all these great features and now Full HD Movie Mode, the PowerShot SX1 IS Digital Camera is the perfect complement to a DSLR. The PowerShot SX1 IS Digital Camera is scheduled to be available in April for an estimated retail price of $599.99.
Here's a brief description of the other nine PowerShot cameras:
  • PowerShot SX200 IS: 12.1 megapixel, 12x optical zoom (28-336mm equivalent), IS, 720p HD movie mode, 3" LCD display. Will ship in March for $349.99, available in black, blue and red.

  • PowerShot D10: 12.1 megapixel, 3x optical zoom, can withstand depths up-to-33-feet deep, is freeze proof from 14 degrees Fahrenheit and shockproof up-to-four feet. Available in early May for $329.99.

  • PowerShot SD970 IS Digital ELPH: 12.1 megapixel, 5x optical zoom, 3" LCD display, 720p HD movie mode. Ships in mid-April for $379.99.

  • PowerShot SD960 IS Digital ELPH: 12.1 megapixel, 4x optical zoom (28-112mm equivalent), 720p HD movie mode, 2.8" LCD display. Will be available in early May for $329.99.

  • PowerShot SD780 IS Digital ELPH: 12.1 megapixel, 3x optical zoom, 2.5" LCD display. Available by mid-March for $279.99

  • PowerShot SD1200 IS Digital ELPH: 10 megapixel, available in six bright colors. This models will arrive in mid_march for $229.99.

  • PowerShot A2100 IS: 12.1 megapixel, 6x optical zoom, 3" LCD display. Available in early April for $249.99.

  • PowerShot A1100 IS: 12.1 megapixel, 4x optical zoom, 2.5" LCD display. Expected next month for $199.99.

  • PowerShot A480: 10 megapixel, 3.3x optical zoom, 2.5" LCD display. This one will be available next month for $129.99.

    THIS is how you answer a recessionary environment. You innovate and give technically advanced products that get customers to buy. The other competitors should look at this introduction with envy.

    Delayed product introductions, failure to bring out better products will surely make any company's position worse in this environment.

    The review title is misleading. SX200 IS records only 720p not 1080p.
