Industry sources told DigiTimes that TSMC is expected to enter production of Intel Atom system-on-chip (SoC) solutions in Q4 2009 at the earliest.
But the industry sources noted that the Taiwan foundry is expected to volume produce Atom-core SoCs in the fourth quarter of this year at the earliest, paving the way for "the wider range of applications" that Intel's smallest processor looks to penetrate – mobile internet devices (MIDs), smartphones, netbooks, nettops and AC-powered consumer electronics devices – by 2010.

TSMC CEO and president Rick Tsai said the Intel-TSMC strategic partnership will bring together the Intel architecture and the TSMC technology platform through multiple SoC implementations.
A statement from NVIDIA yesterday hinted the GPU maker may take advantage of this deal to create its "own" x86 SoCs within 2-3 years.
